The Realms is an rp based off the trilogy by Libba Bray. A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels,and The Sweet Far Thing. (A great series of darkness, mystery, desire, fantasy and creatures from dark imaginations set in the 1800s.)
This takes place in the 1800s in England, the reign of Queen Victoria. There's also a magical world: The Realms. This is our two settings.
History:
About 30 years ago, the Order, a group of powerful women rules the Realms and the Temple within. They controlled the magic. The Raska, a group of men were the guardians to the Order and the magic of the Realms, protectors. They also helped the souls of the Dead cross the River to the other side. If not done, the Dead can be corrupted. The Order and the Raska built a wall between the Winter Lands and kept the creatures out of the Gardens. Then it all collapsed, no one exactly knows why (to be explained later). The Order lost their power and fell into chaos, fighting to regain control and domination. The Raska turned on the Order, as they thought it was their chance to be the controllers of the Realm's magic. There was a hidden war, then it all stopped when the three door ways between the Realms and Earth were closed. The two secret societies gathere themselves together once again, but held a seperated their alliance. They needed a way to get back into the realms and restore order and regain control of the magic. After the closing of the realms, the creatures of the realms fought for power, as the Order and the Raska had been defeated and left the Realms. The magic that had given the wall it's power in the Border Lands, died away, allowing the creatures to enter teh Gardens adn other parts of the Realms. A former member of the Order, Alena had found one of the entrances into the Realms and gained control of the winterlands. Now all of the Winterlands are under her control, and there's a war being fought between the Winter Lands's creatures and the other beings of the Realms.
The Order (now):[/b]
The Order has a school, a bording school where girls are trained, and taught the history of the Order. They are trying to still get back into the Realms in hopes of regaining their once high power. They no longer associate with the Raska. The ages for teh girls start even lower, but at the school of the Order, (a setting in the rp) it's for ages 15-20. The twist is, that inorder to have it as a bording school, oridnary girls attend this school, but the school is old and has many secrets. And the head mistress is a full memeber of the order, as many of the teachers are. They teach the children of teh Order, while other classes are for regular girls.
The Raska (now):[/b]
Similar to what the Order has for it's children, the Raska have a "gentlemen's club" as you'd properly call it in the setting of England in the 1800s. This is only for the Raska, but any can join, if they pass the test and are loyal enough. So note, for all guys who aren't Raska may become one during the rp. In the "club" the Raska teach the history, about the Order (a little twisted version of the war), and about the Realms and goals of the Raska. There's different ranks for the Raska, as there are for the Order. For the Raska, a "peir" or fellow member of the the Raska is called a Brother, as a Sister is called for the Order.
About the Realms:
Magic is free flowing in the realms, or at least used to be. There are the Gardens, the Border Lands, the lands in between the Winter Lands and the Gardens and of course, the formidable, dark regions of ice: the Winter Lands.
The only humans that can come to the Realms are those of the Order (or anyone that the Order brings with them). Other, normal, ordinary people come here in their dreams, seeing fading glimpses of their hopes, desires and fears, but they forget and think that the terrible beauty of their dreams is all in their minds.
---The Gardens:
Are beautiful lands where anything is possible. There’s the Temple. High on the cliffs where the Order once ruled and kept their magic within the ruins there. There’s the forest folk who live here, centaurs, fairies and the untouchables (TBE later)
---The Border Lands:
Dying lands, over run by thickets, bramble and poisonous nightshade. Ruins of the once great garden are found here, temples and castles taken back by the earth.
---The Winter Lands:
Dark, foreboding lands, covered by black skies and fouled by the most nightmarish creatures. They are the winter lands creatures; corrupted and evil. There are the Trackers, who take souls and feast upon them to keep them alive, the Dead, where souls that do not cross to the other side of the River, are taken and corrupted, and many other ghoulish beings.
Other:
---untouchables are people who are dead to everything. They feel no pain, no happyness...no emotion at all. You can't touch them either. They try to take people away in the Realms, convicing them that's it's better to live without emotion. And those who follow are people whose lives are terrible, painfull (it's better than sucicide) and those who want to escape the torment of life. They live in the realms. They are neither good nor bad, but existing to wander for eternity in the Realms.
Rules of the Realms:
- you eat the fruit here, you stay, forever alive and trapped within the Realms, never to see the other side of the River: paradise.
- in the Winter Lands, the only payment that can be used to blood, magic or your soul, promises are hard to keep and are as binding as any iron
- unless you’re of the Order, you can’t hold the magic forever, it’ll fade with time
- the magic can do lots, but it can’t heal physical injures
- the magic has mysterious ways of working. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” {quote}
- *** If your character is within the realms as someone who permentantly lives there, they can't be of the Order or Raska. Though they can be "former members" once you become a creature of the Realms, you renounce your previous titles
